This Discussion Paper aims to commence a dialogue with NSW planning authorities and stakeholders about the future of “freight and logistics” – that is the things we handle, store, distribute and receive – in a different light. The “F-word” is not understood and requires the planning system to take interest and understand the different ways to manage and facilitate the movement and location of freight activities in order to help create sustainable and liveable communities. Freight and logistics are not an add on service but an integral part of the regional, metropolitan and local strategic planning conversation. The solutions discussed at this event and throughout the paper are about more than just industrial land, it’s about how goods move into and out of our city in an efficient and customer responsive manner.
